Weiz, 4th December 2024 – Craiss Generation Logistik Austria GmbH & Co. KG takes an important step towards sustainable mobility. At the Weiz site, two Mercedes eActros 300s will be put into operation for regional public transport. This measure is part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce CO₂emissions, which enables fuel savings of up to two-thirds of current consumption levels.
"With the introduction of electric trucks, we are setting a strong example for sustainable logistics and showing our commitment to the environment," says Marco Niesen, deputy site manager in Weiz, adding: "We want to actively contribute to improving air quality and reducing traffic congestion in our city." The two new electric trucks will be used in Weiz to cover a distance of ten kilometres as a shuttle service. The vehicles are specially designed for the regional market and offer optimal conditions for the transport of high and bulky components due to the low vehicle frame, as a so-called low liner. "These low liners are particularly suitable for mega trailers, such as the ones we require for Siemens Energy," continues Niesen. Craiss thus offers an environmentally friendly alternative that meets the demanding logistical requirements of its customer.
To ensure optimal use of the new electric trucks, a 160-kW quick charging station was installed at the Weiz site. This charging station allows both trucks to be charged in parallel in just four hours. Vehicles are charged during off-peak hours, such as at nights and on weekends. Craiss thereby ensures that the electric trucks are always ready for use and that they support shift operations smoothly.
Technical innovations
The logistics centre in Weiz, which is supplied with CO₂-neutral electricity and district heating, distinguishes itself with the latest technologies. In addition to sustainable electricity being supplied, the halls are illuminated with energy-efficient LEDs, and all logistical services are carried out exclusively using electrically driven forklifts.
As part of the sustainable conversion of the fleet, two diesel commercial vehicles will now be replaced by the new eActros 300s. We achieve CO2 savings for the site – and a significantly lower burden on people and the environment – and set an example when it comes to attaining a sustainable Weiz region," says Pascal Mroncz, team leader of the sustainability department at Craiss.
A look to the future
With the commissioning of the electric trucks and the installation of the quick charging station, Craiss Generation Logistik is not only positioning itself as a pioneer in the field of sustainable logistics but is also laying the foundation for future developments. The company plans to continue to invest in environmentally friendly technologies and explore alternative types of drive so as to meet the needs of its customers while reducing its own ecological footprint at the same time. Mroncz explains: "By implementing this initiative at the Weiz site, we are making our contribution to a more sustainable future."
